artist statement

Brenda Camargo is a Chicago native and also an artist. Much of her creative work includes drawing, painting, and sculpting. What she creates revolves around her thoughts, ideas, and possible ways to visualize these and/or bring them to life. She believes art has become a way to speak the unspoken, and to bring out the best in people’s minds and creative abilities. Art has been one of her many passions, beginning when she was a young girl wanting to try her hand at making crafts and show emotions through color. Part of that passion lingers as she looks back at what she has created and plans to make next.

Brenda’s works are often connected through color scheme, value, and/or technique. Her drawings are a product of her imagination and of elements of everyday life as well as the result of questioning the limits of what can be placed on paper. She allows herself to push the limits of human anatomy and uses elements of both realistic and cartoon drawings in her work. Brenda works with various materials ranging from the standard #2 pencil, vine, and compressed charcoal to Sumi ink in her drawings. Despite having experience with both oil and acrylic paint, oil painting has become her preference.
